THE EXCELLENT TOBACCO FACTORY Lyn Gardner, The Guardian, January 2010

In 2009 the Tobacco Factory Theatre welcomed over 80,000 audience members to 467 performances across 48 weeks of the year.

We are proud of the fact that we directly earn the vast majority of our income: around 85% of our income comes from box-office (66%), bar sales, room hire, workshops and other earned sources.

We get 7% from public sources, but we still have to find 8% of our turnover every year. Some of this comes from trusts and foundations, but the reality is that without the loyal and enthusiastic support of our audiences we simply could not continue to present this level of programming, unrivalled in its diversity in this part of the country.

VENTILATION APPEAL UPDATE

In July 2009 we launched a fundraising campaign towards the installation of much-needed ventilation in the auditorium at the Tobacco Factory Theatre. Having taken the plunge and secured an interest-free loan to enable the installation to go ahead, we went out with a request for help to allow us to repay that loan.

We therefore set ourselves the target of raising £25,000 by the end of 2009.

The response has been tremendous. The combined support of our Fans, audience members, trusts and foundations means we are delighted to have raised £24,901.

The air handling system has already made real difference to audiences and performers alike, and we have been bowled over by the terrific public response to the appeal.

We are delighted to be able to recognise the support of the following donors on a dedicated wall in the theatre foyer:

Gold An Anonymous Family Trust, Bristol City Council, The Comedy Box, Julian Thomas, Shakespeare at the Tobacco Factory, Travelling Light Theatre Company

Silver Anonymous, John & Sue Hart, Mark Hudson, Peter & Helen Wilde

Bronze Anonymous, Andrew & Catherine Barnes, Sally Bennett, Tim & Jo Chambers, Stephen Clark 1957 Charitable Trust, Sue Daniel, Constance Durie, Peter Durie, Alec Ewens, Susan Holden, June McLeod, Dr Graham Pegg, Ian Robinson, Helen & Ray Smith, Joy Sparks, Bristol & Clifton Golf Club Seniors’ Section, John Dunn, Susan Carter, Jessamy & Chris Kerr
