For Theatre Makers

Learning

For a while now we’ve been programming workshops with companies playing here to enable local theatre professionals to work with national/international artists and encourage greater engagement with our programme. Last autumn NIE and Volcano delivered inspiring sessions and there will more where this came from, including the development of our programme of masterclasses that run alongside our Bodyworks dance and physical perfromance initiative. Our aim for the future is to continue to develop this area of our activity whilst also building a programme of professional development workshops/short courses.

At this year’s Mayfest we launched Generator, for professional theatre-makers, which provides a supportive and creative environment in which industry peers can develop their practice through collaborative learning. The sessions involve a practical workshop on the given theme led by the facilitator, followed by the opportunity for participants to share their own techniques either via workshop or discussion. Generator sessions are facilitated by Amy Rose, a highly experienced theatre-maker and facilitator, who’s worked Brenda Waite among others. Generator sessions currently run at one or two per season. We plan to develop the initiative over the next two years to provide further opportunities for artists to develop their skills, sustain their working practice and take part in mentoring.

We also seek to work with practitioners on developing our theatre-maker learning offer. If you’d like to be part of this process please get in touch.
