Edith Piaf lives again
Eve Loiseau takes to the stage to bring the little sparrow to life in Piaf - the Songs on 1& 2 July.
Piaf’s life was the stuff of legend, from her dramatic rise from Paris street urchin to star of international renown. Piaf – the Songs threads a lively narrative through some of la môme’s most loved songs including La vie en rose, Sous le ciel de Paris, Milord, Autumn Leaves, Padam Padam, C’est merveilleux, L’accordéoniste, Non je ne regrette rien and many more.
Here are some of the reviews and comments that the show has been receiving on it’s way to Bristol:
‘a heart rending show, emulating not only the style but the spirit of this tragic singer’s life’ Cheltenham Art Gallery & Museum
‘a beautiful voice - a Piaf better than Mireille Mathieu!’ Redbridge Institute
‘Absolutely wonderful arrangements! And as for that Piaf singer - amazing. She is better than the real thing, and I don’t say that lightly.’ John Hardy, composer & Bafta Cymru award winner
‘a class act’ Caroline Richardson, Norwich Playhouse
‘a wonderful show and they were a delight’ James Duffy, Pocklington Arts Centre
‘Travelled from North Wales for the show at Warwick Arts Centre on Sunday night…..worth every mile and more- really enjoyed the evening. Thank you all ( thanks extend to the wonderful audience too!)’ Hazel Campbell
‘Just to say thank you for a wonderful concert on Fri 3 June. Eve, Fiona and Eddie are all very lovely and we had a fabulous evening’ Sharon Stone, St Donat’s Arts Centre
‘Caught this show at The Playhouse in Norwich. Really an excellent evening out! Terrific renditions of Piaf’s songs and story by Eve Loiseau - the first time I’ve heard the lyrics and actually understood them - with wonderful music from Fiona Barrow and Edward Jay. Audiences tend to be a bit jaded at this time of year - the Norwich Festival has just ended, and most people are feeling entertained-out (not to mention the competing charms of the Man U/ Barca football match that night) - but this packed-out show revitalised the audience. People near me were in tears, many songs were greeted with a sigh of pleasure and everyone was on their feet and singing along by the end. Great stuff.’ Sarah, Warwick Arts Centre website feedback
