CINDERELLA: BEHIND THE SCENES 3
Travelling Light’s Nick White gives us the latest from the rehearsal room with one week to go (!!) and tells us a bit more about the other Cinderella related activities we have coming up. PLUS a new video blog.
The set has started to arrive at the theatre!
There is a final definitive script!
We have nearly finished the programme!
Cinderella: A Fairytale opens at the Tobacco Factory Theatre a week today and its all hands on deck getting ready for the first show next Wednesday evening. Craig Edwards (stepmother) has mastered the cello, Lisa Kerr (Ella) has had her hair cut and Thomas Eccleshare (the prince) is perfecting his latin. With a sold-out audience for the first 4 nights, everyone knows the stakes are high so everyone is determined to make it excellent.
In the midst of editing videos for you all to see glimpses behind the scenes of the show (the third instalment is now online (above) and the fourth on its way) we’ve been busy cooking up some other ideas to make the world around the show as inventive and unique as the piece itself.
Travelling Light’s Youth Theatre have been busy working on some short curtain raiser performances that they are going to share with waiting audiences before the shows on Thursday 15 and Friday 16 December – very exciting as they’ve been working with director Sally Cookson a little bit as well as Travelling Light stalwarts Remi Tawose and Rachael Cross.
St Francis Primary School in Nailsea are making some totally unique, one off, never to be seen before or again shoes as a part of our schools Best Boots In Bristol competition – essentially making a ‘new pair’ of shoes for Cinderella to try on!
And we’ve got some great workshops themed around the show coming up too. On Tuesday 20 December a lucky cohort of young people will be taking part in a post-show ‘Have a Go at Cinderella’ experience and on Monday 9 January we’re running a day of professional development with Sally and designer Katie Sykes, for theatre makers and teachers.
It never rains but it pours! It certainly is at the moment and that’s why I’m excited to see the show as it opens next week – simply because there’s so much more to happen even once it has begun.
If you haven’t booked your tickets yet, do it now!
