Stage Manager Rachel Isaacs reflects on Christmas time in the Theatre…
So we have just come back from the Christmas break and we are all feeling a bit fuzzy. Although I love my job it does mess with your sense of time: coming back and doing the same show everyday can begin to feel a little like groundhog day!
Before every performance there are things we have to do to make sure the show runs smoothly. One such thing is a ‘shout check’, which makes sure we have set all the costumes and props in the right place. Often you find yourself thinking, yes I did set that, or was that this morning?!
Christmas already feels like a long time ago, but there are nice things we do together that keeps everyone in the spirit. For instance today the cast and crew are going to have a brunch between the shows and give out Secret Santa presents, which has become a bit of a Christmas tradition at the Tobacco Factory and is always really nice. The Christmas audiences have been so lovely, and this has made the shows extra special. Now we’re looking forward to the New Year!
