A Midsummer Reviews

If you saw Filter’s Twelfth Night on either of its two visits to the TFT (yes, two - it was that good), then you’ll know not to miss their brand new creation, A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Chaos and creativity, mayhem and music rule on the Filter stage, and there’s no getting away from the fact that you’re watching something live and vividly human. Turning Shakespeare’s play on its head but remaining true to its text, story and spirit, this is Shakespeare for anyone who thinks they don’t like Shakespeare; it’s Shakespeare for Shakespeare’s biggest fans.

The show has just started a national tour and already receiving rave reviews:

“[it] reminds us just how much Shakespeare is still relevant today. And that’s where the beauty lies in a production like this. It makes everybody an equal, someone new to Shakespeare will feel just as at home here, as someone who has taken a greater study of the play. It’s fast paced. The sound and music – all done on stage – are marvellous.

Purists may not be pleased but they certainly will leave this modern version of Shakespeare’s romantic comedy, in good spirit. Overall, an absurd, clever production which is a real crowd pleaser – all that was missing was a sparkle of fairy dust
.” The Public Review

The Filter Theatre Company is well known for its unique take on classic texts, including Twelfth Night, Three Sisters and The Caucasian Chalk Circle. However this time they are joined by ‘The London Snorkelling Team’ providing the music, and the acting troupe, along with Fergus O’Donnell (Audience member) who delivers a stand out performance.

The actors and musicians number just 11 in total, which is all that is needed for the cast to create one of the most unexpected takes of Shakespeare’s classic play that the audience has possibly ever seen.Pukaar News
