30 April 2010: Fame, frocks and false eyelashes…

Fame, frocks and false eyelashes…

Our packed summer season kicks off on Wednesday when ground-breaking theatre company Graeae’s new show Signs of a Star-Shaped Diva opens at the Brewery. What better way to get as far away from election fever as possible than with this escapist tale of undertaker Sue and her alias Tammy Frascati, a cabaret singer who wends her way to stardom signing the songs of the great divas… Billie, Dusty, Ella and Gloria.
Theatre at its most accessible (in every sense of the word), Signs of a Star-Shaped Diva is a real feel-good night out for everyone who’s ever wanted to be two people at once. Click here to see a trailer.

A fortnight of theatrical magic…

Bristol’s annual festival of adventurous theatre for playful people opens at venues across Bristol on Friday 7 May and at the TF with the world premiere of The Mark Bruce Company’s latest show Love and War. With a soundtrack that includes The White Stripes, Sparklehorse and Tom Waits, this isn’t dance-theatre for the faint-hearted. It promises to be an extraordinary show, delivering staggering spectacle and emotional punch in equal measure. See here for some ravishing photographs of the company in rehearsal. I can’t think of a better way to get the Mayfest fortnight off to an exhilarating start.
You can find out about all the Mayfest shows playing at the TF and Brewery here.

The best in theatre for children

This coming half-term we’ve got a real treat in store for youngsters. Not only are we delighted to be welcoming back Travelling Light in a co-production with Sixth Sense Theatre with their truly enchanting show for families with children aged 3+ Bob the Man on the Moon (watch a trailer here!), but we’re also offering youngsters aged 7 – 11 the chance to explore Maurice Sendak’s fantastic tale Where the Wild Things Are in a special one-off daylong Storybox workshop. Create your own wild rumpus and discover your own inner monster in this practical and fun-filled workshop. Click here to find out more.
